Context
The objective of this project was to design a deck of cards that implements a well working system between the suits, faces, and numbers.
Playing Cards
This design was inspired by Mexican culture, specifically the Dia de los Muertos celebration. La Catrina, the dapper skeleton, is an iconic character of the celebration. The face cards are inspired by La Catrina who wears early 20th century European styled attire. The design also uses elements of papel picado, paper cut-outs, a form of decoration used for celebrations. Together these influences create a dynamic grid in which a system of suits, faces, and numbers work together as part of a whole system.
